BIT Cenote Recommendation

YAX KIN

Cenote Yax Kin is on the 307 Highway between Tulum and Playa Del Carmen. It is an 18-minute drive from Tulum and 41 minutes from Playa Del Carmen. The more exact location is just south of Xel Ha and Dos Ojos Park.

Note: If you are coming from Tulum you will need to pass the entrance and take the next return to go back down the west side of the highway.

By car: Take the 307 Highway south, towards Playa del Carmen. Once you pass Puerto Aventuras, go about 4 minutes more. You will see the Barceló Hotel Resort entrance on the left and then just after that on the right is a row of cenotes.
There are four places to visit. You will see the sign on the road.

EL JARDIN DEL EDEN (The Garden Of Eden)
*Open Sun-Fri from 7:00am-5:00pm. Closed on Saturday

By car: Drive south on the 307 highway from Playa Del Carmen. You will pass Puerto Aventuras and about 5 minutes past there you will see the main entrance to Barceló Hotel on the left. On the right are four separate cenotes to visit. Enter the dirt road at the sign on the right.
There is a small building where you pay and get wristbands.
Parking is ample.

By car: Take the 307 Highway south. Once you pass Puerto Aventuras you will go for about 4 more minutes. Barceló Hotel entrance is on the left and almost across from it will be the entrance for Cenote Cristalino.

GRAN CENOTE (GREAT)
*Open daily from 8:00am-4:45pm

By taxi: One way to the Gran cenote from Tulum center is about 100 MXN pesos (approximately $5.00 USD)
​
By bicycle: 20 minutes to get to the Gran cenote from the Tulum center.
By car: From Tulum center, it’s only a 5-minute drive to this cenote
​
SUYTUN
*Open daily from 9:00am-5:00pm
(Please note that the time will change ahead an hour, Valladolid is an hour ahead of Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, and Tulum.)
​
To get from Tulum to Cenote Suytun will take you about 80 minutes over 95 kilometers. And from Chichen Itza to Cenote Suytun, which is a perfect day trip, it takes about 50 minutes over a distance of 55 kilometers.

Cenote Dos Ojos is located just three kilometers off the Highway 307, 22 km north of Tulum, and 50 km south of Playa del Carmen.
By car, Cenote Dos Ojos is a 40-minute drive south of Playa del Carmen. Turn right just after Xel-Ha onto the marked gravel road.

CALAVERA (TEMPLE OF DOOM)

Cenote Calavera (Skull Cenote which is also known as the Temple of Doom) is located 2 km west of the intersection of highway 307 and the Coba/beach road on the northeast side of Tulum pueblo.

From Tulum, it is about 8.5 KM toward Coba on the Tulum/Coba road. It will be on the left.
​
NOTE: Don’t bring regular bug spray if you are getting into the water. This contaminates the water and damages the ecosystem. No sunscreen is allowed. Some cenotes allow BIODEGRADABLE BUG SPRAY however having nothing on your skin is preferred.
